This site is intended to provide ideas and inspiration – for people my age to go have some fun and new experiences before it’s too late. It also provides me with a record of some great memories.
Many of the featured trips are done with various mates. Fact is men invest far too little in their male friends and have, at best, a somewhat superficial set of relationships. Travel is a way of getting deeper and talking more. I’m fortunate that I’ve got a group of mates who think similarly and are also into independent travel like me. As such, we have started scheduling regular trips away.
Not all the trips on here are with my mates. Some are with my partner Paula, some are with my kids (both in their early 20s) and some are part of organised groups which I am increasingly a fan of.
These are the things that generally float my boat when traveling and which are the focus of the musings:
- Meeting local people.
- Eating and drinking where locals hang out.
- Learning from passionate people about the history and development of their place.
- Great architecture and design.
- Impressive natural landscapes.
- Museums, galleries and live music.
- Lots of people watching and flaneuring.
The site is done as a hobby. If I can find a way of securing a few quid for travel insights and/or curating trips then one day I might marry it up with the economics/place development consultancy career that I have enjoyed for last 30 years (Wisher Consulting). For now, I will rely on the economics to earn the money and this platform to talk about how to spend it.
I’m also found on Instagram at wishmcr70.
